President Dr Ram Baran Yadav reached the Indian capital New Delhi Monday afternoon to begin his first official visit of India at the invitation of Indian President Pratibha Patil.

India's Minister of State for External Affairs Pranita Kaur, Nepalese Ambassador to India Rukma Shumshere Rana and Indian ambassador to Nepal Rakesh Sood had welcomed President Yadav at the Indira Gandhi International Airport upon his arrival.

President Ram Baran Yadav is on a four-day state visit to India leading a 27-member delegation.

Earlier today morning, he had left for New Delhi on a special flight of Nepal Airlines

This is President Yadav's first foreign visit after he assumed office in 2008. Nepal Army offered a 21-gun salute at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) before his departure.

President Yadav has delegated Vice President Parmananda Jha as the acting President during his absence.

During his visit, President Yadav will meet with his Indian counterpart Pratibha Patil, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress (I) president Sonia Gandhi, among others.

Four memorandums of understandings including that on establishment of Hetauda Polytechnic Institute, train service in five places along the Nepal-India border, expansion of air service and construction of a conference hall is likely to be signed during the President's visit. nepalnews.com
